FAE SKUYA

FOR HEMPFIELD SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR

MEET FAE SKUYA

FOR HEMPFIELD SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR

Fae Skuya and her family moved to Hempfield nearly 5 years ago, largely due to the reputation of its excellent schools and community values. Prior to moving to Hempfield, they were an Air Force family living in several parts of the U.S., Asia, Europe and the Middle East; going where the Air Force sent them. While they absolutely loved the time serving as a military family, they were ecstatic to choose Hempfield as their forever home when it became time to retire.

Fae Skuya graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1994 with a degree in mathematics and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. She completed a master’s degree in strategic intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College in 1995. Fae served as an Intelligence Officer for 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. Her wide-ranging leadership experiences as a Lieutenant Colonel prepared her for challenges of school board directors, including leading teams toward a common goal, developing strategic plans and budgets, analyzing data, writing policies, but perhaps most importantly, conflict resolution within varied teams.

Since Fae retired, her focus has been on raising her 3 children with her husband and serving in her community, including supporting Hempfield and Columbia students and families in crisis and leading fundraisers, assisting with grants for schools, providing workshops for kids in schools and at the Boys and Girls Club, leading scouts, supporting foster families, assisting residents at Faith Friendship Villa and volunteering for Blessings of Hope, Bridge of Hope and helping out in classrooms.  Additionally, she is a mentor for Lancaster County’s Veterans Court, a treatment court for Veterans. As a mentor, she supports and encourages participants during their time in the program and leads fundraisers to enable recognition for participants.   Fae will work diligently with the best interests of all children and their families as her number one priority. She will serve our school district to raise academic performance, strengthen the relationship between schools and parents and ensure fiscal responsibility by looking at ways to maximize resources, and make the hard decisions, so that Hempfield can go to the next level.
